Introducing solids can feel like a puzzle. How do you fit new meals into an established milk-feeding routine? Remember that milk (breast milk or formula) is still your baby's primary source of nutrition. Solid food is for exploration.
Offer solids about 30-60 minutes after a milk feed, so your baby isn't too hungry or too full.
Sample 6-Month-Old Feeding Schedule:
- 7:00 AM (Wake Up): Milk Feed
- 8:00 AM (Solids Meal 1): 1-2 tbsp of a single puree (e.g., oatmeal).
- 10:30 AM: Milk Feed
- 12:30 PM: Milk Feed
- 2:30 PM: Milk Feed
- 5:00 PM (Solids Meal 2 - Optional): 1-2 tbsp of a different puree (e.g., sweet potato).
- 6:30 PM: Milk Feed
- 7:00 PM: Bedtime
Key Tips: Start with one solid meal a day and stay flexible. Offer food when your baby is happy and calm, not overly tired.
